Peru/Lima – Miraflores

Sure, Miraflores is a residential and upscale shopping district of Lima, and one of the most touristic parts, but its also very safe and beautiful. Lima is known as the Garden City, and no district rivals Miraflores when it comes to parks.

What to do:

  • Walk down the Malecón, a 9km stretch of parks situated along the cliffs above the Pacific Ocean. You can walk through the many parks such as the Parque del Amor (Park of Love) with Víctor Delfín’s sculpture “El Beso” of a couple kissing. I suggest walking to Barranco if you have the time and want to enjoy the walkway (around 1h walk).
  • Go shopping at Larcomar
  • Parque Kennedy: it’s the point of convergence of both limeños and travelers. The artisans, painters, street food vendors and shoeshine boys bring you to another time… The park has also become a natural shelter for cats, which harmlessly wander throughout the green areas. No-one really knows how the cats came to be here but they are protected and fed by associations and residents.
  • Visit the Inca market
  • Larco Museum: ok not really in Miraflores but not too far. The museum is a gold mine for information about the Inca culture and really well done. You’ll also like to erotic exhibition of statues having sexual relations.
