I only had time to spend one night and a morning in La Paz so I haven’t seen it all but I was actually surprised. Everyone told me it was horrible but it’s not that bad! Yes, it’s a human jungle we’re chaos is king but it still has some perks and I think that it should be a stop when traveling in Bolivia.
I really recommend taking the Teleferico Rojo (red cable car) up to Alto. Try taking it around 6pm when it’s still day light to see all the city while going up and staying in Alto until dark to see the city lights. When getting of the cable car, get out of the station but take a direct right to a view point. You can see the whole city, it’s really worth it! On Sundays, you can go up to Alto for the flea market as well.

During the day, walk to Plaza San Francisco. Have a look at the Church then take the street left of it, Calle Sagarnaga. You can find some souvenir shops. Go onto the Mercado de Brujas (Witches Market). It’s not like in the movies, you won’t find chopped chicken heads or creepy witches, but you will find some funny creams or ingredients. It goes from coca gel for muscle pain to a mix of spices to help with sexual passion!

If you still want to walk a bit, Plaza Murillo is also nie, as well as Calle Jaen, a cute little narrow street with some art galleries.

I stayed at the Adventure Brew hostel, av Montes 503 (72 bolivianos) which was very nicely situated close to the bus terminal and the beds were comfortable. Fair notice: it’s a bit of a party hostel so a bit complicated to have a peaceful night!
